At death’s door, Yuji’s fading consciousness drags him back to that place — a childhood memory he’d buried. His father, Jin, stands over his mother Kaori, whose forehead bears an ugly stitched scar, demanding they leave together and take Yuji away from her. Kaori refuses, smiling, and says something that chills the blood.

In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 144, Choso arrives and gives the memory its terrible meaning: the woman with the stitches was Kenjaku — the ancient curse user who once wore Noritoshi Kamo’s face — which makes Kenjaku Yuji’s “mother.” Everything Yuji is was engineered. Broken, Yuji begs Choso to kill him. Choso refuses. “You’re my little brother,” he says, and stays.
